And yet again I am "forced" to make a throughout review of a pice... ah, the price I pay for being awesome... about 20% more awesome

I must admit that I very much like the concept; it's dark (in a manner of speaking) and yet loses nothing of itsoriginal, MLP charm. The idea is quite interesting, playing quite well with the character and the show altogether, while the design, in a way, plays homeage to the art of My Little Pony.

I'm mostly happy with the originality of this piece: very little MLP-based art didn't strike me as "familiar", yet this manages to take me by surprise. The idea of Rarity actually owning a gem mine is something I didn't come across yet (but then, this can be the result of the fact that mines are dirty and we all know how Rarity feels about dirt ), so it's a welcomed addition to such gallery.
The mixture of styles, while not new, plays further on that concept, strengthening the feeling to new heights. Achiving that through rather simple means is impressive.

And speaking of technique: while it's true it's not spectacular, it composes well with the piece - the roundness (no allusion people ) of Rarity and sharpness of the gems makes a nice contrast, putting more color into the dark mine. The effect is almost sparkling, which in itself is quite fitting.
The lighting could use a bit of adjustment though as the gems seems to glow somewhat strangely. This can be given to the fact they reflect only the rays coming from the entrance and the weak illumination makes a good part of the pic's atmosphere, but it still feels like a miss of some sort.
And, since Rarity seems to be running (in stead of walking), the lack of the movement's effect on her mane and tail is a place to improve upon.

Regardless to the above however, the impact of this piece is undoubtful. It doesn't smack you in the face with flash or grandure, but rather slips in unnoticed, taking the recipant by surprise.
The peaceful underground with its colorful, gentle glow greatly compliments the concept and character as a whole: a mare that is sophisticated, generous (despite giving a very different impression at first glance) and charming with a beauty that lures you in little by little. Much of those traits are reflected by the lighting and colors of this pic, corresponding splendidly with teh whole.
"Small details" such as light at the entrance and the mineral veins add to the piece, mixing with the rest, which forms a unique feeling of fantasy and reality, making the viewer stuck in between. With the right mindset, it brings out a magical vibe into the room, lighting it up, in a way.

Overall I'm quite impressed with this piece - it doesn't give out the feeling of being "grand", but it has a certain charm to itself, luring the viewer towards it gently, almost like Rarity was an actual guide to the mine and this "mythical" mine of hers.

Nicely done.
